As a general rule of thumb, walking down a decrepit alleyway is something we avoid, even in NYC and Melbourne. More so in Malaysia… So you can imagine our anxiety when Google Maps led us down a weird little alley to get to this supposedly Michelin-starred kuih shop.

Nestled along Lebuh Chulia in Penang, Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Kuih is a time capsule of flavours and traditions. Dating back to 1933, this quaint establishment has been making Nyonya kuih for generations, making it one of Penang’s oldest and most cherished Nyonya kuih makers.

Coming from Nyonya-Baba roots ( ... see the Khoo Kongsi blog for elaboration ), I have had always been interested in things Nyonya-ish, be it the culture or the food. So what attracted me to this place called Moh Teng Pheow (MTP for short) was its mixture of both.....
