Just a thirty-minute drive from George Town is Air (Ayer) Itam , a suburb that’s home to tourist spots Kek Lok Si Temple and Penang Hill . It’s also home to incredible hawkers, including Sister Curry Mee .

Besides exploring Air Itam Market, the main reason for coming here was to check out the legendary Sister Curry Mee. Had some difficulty locating it initially as the stall was off the main road (Jalan Paya Terubong).

The Lim sisters, Lim Kooi Heang & Lim Kooi Lai (both in their eighties), have been selling their signature Penang style curry mee for over 60 years under the same tree.

The curry mee from Air Itam market is very sought after by the locals, and the stall is manned by two elderly sisters. There is no signboard, so you will need to look out for the two sisters crouched on a tiny wooden stool, surrounded by pots of noodles, curry and condiments.
