itinerary George Town breakfast crawl: 4 stops on foot
4 stops · 1.2km on foot
Four stops in the old town, about 1.2km end to end, so leave the car behind. The clock that matters belongs to Pitt Street Koay Teow Th'ng, done by 12:00 while the rest keep going into the afternoon. Start around 07:30 and nothing has to be rushed.

Photo: Joseph Reid via Google Maps Weng Kei Wantan Mee is the bright yellow corner shop on Lebuh Carnarvon, and it makes its own noodles with duck eggs and nothing else. Even so, most eaters end up arguing about the roast meats, so put the char siew and roasted pork on the table beside whatever bowl you pick.

Photo: Vera via Google Maps Pitt Street Koay Teow Th'ng shuts at 12:00, so it decides how the rest of the morning goes. The eel balls are the unusual bit, soft and bouncy in a way the standard fish version is not, and the handmade pork fillets come out strongly peppery. The coffee is worth a cup too.

Photo: Ahmad Abdul Halim via Google Maps Ramzan Restaurant is the Indian stop on this walk, and the whole leg duck curry is the dish nobody else on the list can match: tender, deep in spice, never oily. If a duck leg feels like too much this early, take the chapati with sardine curry instead.

Photo: Boon Lim via Google Maps The prawn and pork broth here comes with pork ribs, intestine and crispy lard, and the lor mee has its own following if soup is not what you want. Bridge Street Hokkien Mee has run on Lebuh Pantai for over 60 years under the third generation, and locals still call it Keo Thau.
